Carina-Habagat Flood Response Portal

The interaction of weather systems and extreme weather events over the course of five days, beginning July 20, has brought record heavy rainfall across the Philippines. Typhoon Carina (International Name, Gaemi) and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) has submerged a total of 1,235 areas across Regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao,  Davao, Soccsksargen, Bangsamoro Administrative  Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARRM), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Metro Manila (NDRRMC Situtation Report No. 30, 1 August 2024).

Flooding, landslides, torrential flash floods and strong winds have affected a total of 5,456,390 individuals or 1,480,323 families in a total of 540 municipalities in the Philippines, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). In Metro Manila alone, a total of 36,957 families or (146,005 persons) are still facing the aftermath of Habagat and Carmi. As Carina leaves the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the storm intensified into a Super Typhoon, causing more flooding in areas in Central Luzon and northern part of Luzon.

World Vision Development Foundation, Inc. is able to respond to critical areas in three most affected regions, including Metro Manila. Non-Food Items (NFI) reached 2,569 families, mainly in Baseco, Manila, and barangay Tatalon, Quezon City. Hygiene Kits were distributed to 1,350 families in Bulacan. Learner’s Kits were also distributed to 2,636 families, particularly in Calumpit in Bulacan and Baseco, Manila.
